Appreciating Rare Books and Reaching a Wider Public

Interested in a guided viewing of our Rare Books and Special Collections?

In celebration of Ottawa’s built heritage, the Jean-Léon Allie Library and Archives participates in Ottawa’s annual Doors Open. Members of the general public are invited for a special viewing of our library’s rare heritage.

Do you have an old book, and want to know more about it?

Your Old Book is a set of frequently asked questions with answers prepared by the Rare Books and Manuscripts Publications Committee section of the American Library Association. If you want to know more about your old book, this is an excellent place to start.  [French translation is forthcoming]

Help us to preserve a piece of our history - Adopt a book

With time, some items in our Rare Books and Special Collections have become damaged. You can help the library in its mission to preserve our heritage items for generations to come by adopting a book. $250 is the minimum donation amount and a tax receipt will be provided. In honour of your contribution, we will insert a dedication to your name in the book, and a before and after image will be posted to our Instagram account. For more information please contact us at biblio@ustpaul.ca.
