Visiting

Visit us at the Jean-Léon Allie Library and Archives to consult our rare books and primary sources for your research and teaching in religious studies and related fields. Our Rare Books and Special Collections make up part of one of the largest theological libraries in North America. You will find us at Saint Paul University in Canada’s national capital, Ottawa. While primary sources can be found throughout our general collection and in our archives, the majority of books published before 1900 will need to be consulted in our E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation Scholar's Room

Preparing your Visit

  • Our scholar’s room is open to our students and faculty, as well as visiting researchers while consulting our rare books.

  • Make your request to visit by downloading and filling out our Visit Request Form. We strongly recommend that you submit your request at least two weeks in advance of your visit.

  • Identify relevant materials by exploring our collection strengths, by using a range of searching strategies with our catalogue, and by making an appointment with us.

  • Consult our Scholar's Reading Room Policies before your visit.

Additional Information for Visiting Researchers

  • Find out more about parking on and near campus.

  • Visiting researchers from participating institutions in Eduroam's wireless network can connect to the WiFi and gain access to the electronic resources that we share with the University of Ottawa. Unaffiliated visiting researchers must go through the University of Ottawa's Services for Visitors to connect to the WiFi on their devices, and gain access to our shared electronic resources.  Desktop computers with access to the Web and to the physical items in our catalogue are available in the library.
